At First Street Books, we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. We understand that sometimes a book might not be quite what you expected, and we're here to help make things right.

Our Return Policy

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for both new and used books purchased from our store.

Eligible Returns

To be eligible for a return, items must meet the following conditions:

  • Books must be in the same condition as when you received them
  • New books must be unread with no markings, highlighting, or damage
  • Used books must be returned in the condition described at time of purchase
  • All original packaging materials should be included when possible
  • Proof of purchase (order number or receipt) is required

Non-Returnable Items

The following items cannot be returned:

  • Books showing signs of use beyond initial inspection
  • Books with writing, highlighting, or other markings added after purchase
  • Items damaged due to misuse or accidents after delivery
  • Sale or clearance items marked as "final sale"

How to Initiate a Return

Step 2: Get Authorization
Our team will review your request and provide you with return authorization and instructions within 1-2 business days.

Step 3: Ship Your Return
Carefully package your items and ship them to:

Please note: Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is due to our error (wrong item sent, damaged upon arrival, etc.).

Step 4: Receive Your Refund
Once we receive and inspect your return, we'll process your refund within 5-7 business days.

Refund Information

Refund Method

Refunds will be issued to your original payment method through Shopify's secure payment processor. Please allow 5-10 business days for the refund to appear in your account, depending on your financial institution.

Refund Amount

  • Full purchase price will be refunded for eligible returns
  • Original shipping costs are non-refundable (unless we made an error)
  • Return shipping costs are the customer's responsibility

Partial Refunds

In some cases, we may offer a partial refund for:

  • Books returned outside the 30-day window (at our discretion)
  • Items not in original condition but still resalable
  • Used books with minor damage not noted at time of return request

Exchanges

We don't offer direct exchanges at this time. If you'd like a different book, please return your original purchase for a refund and place a new order on our website.

Damaged or Defective Items

If your book arrives damaged or defective:

  2. Provide photos of the damage
  3. We'll arrange for a replacement or full refund at no cost to you
  4. We'll cover all return shipping costs for damaged items

Please inspect your order upon receipt and notify us within 48 hours of any damage or defects.

Wrong Item Received

If you receive the wrong book or an incorrect order:

  • Contact us within 48 hours of delivery
  • We'll send you the correct item immediately
  • Return shipping for the incorrect item will be covered by us
  • You'll receive the correct book at no additional charge

Lost or Stolen Packages

Once your package has been marked as delivered by the shipping carrier, First Street Books is not responsible for lost or stolen packages. We recommend:

  • Tracking your shipment using the tracking number provided
  • Requesting signature confirmation for valuable orders
  • Contacting the shipping carrier directly if a package shows delivered but wasn't received
